FAQ

Tap the + Add button in the top toolbar. A new cue tile labeled "New Cue" appears. Tap its button, then Select to choose your audio source — either from the Files app or your Music Library.

You can rename the cue at any time by tapping ⓘ Info → Edit and entering a new title.

Tap ⓘ Info → Edit on the cue tile. You'll see two fields: Marker Time (where playback starts) and End Marker Time (where it stops), both entered in seconds.

For example, entering 30 as Marker Time and 90 as End Marker Time will play only the 30–90 second portion of the file. If the end marker is less than or equal to the start marker, the end marker is ignored.

Tap ⓘ Info → Add Marker on any cue. Give the marker a name and enter its start time in seconds. An optional end time lets you define a clip range — leaving it blank plays from the marker to the end of the file.

Markers appear directly in the ⓘ Info menu so you can jump to any point instantly. You can add as many markers as needed, and manage or delete them via ⓘ Info → Edit Markers.

Next Cue lets you chain cues together so playback automatically continues from one cue to the next when the first one finishes. Tap ⓘ Info → Next Cue and select which cue should follow.

If the target cue has markers, you can choose to enter it at a specific marker rather than from the beginning. A ★ star icon appears on any cue that has a Next Cue assigned. To remove the link, tap ⓘ Info → Next Cue → None.

Yes, with some limitations. When selecting a cue source, choose Music Library to pick a track from your Apple Music or iTunes library.

DRM-free tracks (music you've purchased or imported) support full volume control and start/end markers. DRM-protected Apple Music streaming tracks play via the system music player and do not support volume adjustment or marker trimming.

Yes. CueSuite uses the AVAudioSession playback category, which routes audio through the speaker and ignores the hardware Silent switch. This ensures your cues always play reliably during live performances.

CueSuite saves your cues automatically to your device's local storage using UserDefaults. If cues are missing, the most common cause is that the app was deleted and reinstalled, which removes all local data.

Cue audio is linked via iOS security-scoped bookmarks. If a file is moved or deleted from its original location in the Files app, the cue will lose its audio link. Re-select the audio file via ⓘ Info → Select to restore it.

Use the ◀ Previous and Next ▶ buttons in the toolbar to move between pages. Tap the page number label to jump directly to a specific page number.

The number of cues per page adjusts automatically based on your device's screen size and orientation, so the grid always fills the available space.

Tap the grid edit button (square grid icon) in the toolbar to enter layout edit mode. In this mode, long-press any cue tile and drag it to a new position. Tap the checkmark button to save and exit edit mode.

The grid layout is saved automatically and persists across sessions. Cues that are currently playing cannot be moved while in edit mode to prevent accidental audio interruption.

Getting Started

Setup Guide
ℹ️ CueSuite is designed for landscape orientation. For the best experience, rotate your device to landscape before use. The app will stay locked in landscape mode during your show.
1
Add your first cue
Tap the + Add button. A new tile labeled "New Cue" appears. Tap its button, then Select to choose your audio source — either from the Files app or your Music Library.
2
Name your cue
Tap ⓘ → Edit to give the cue a descriptive name. If you select a file from the Files app, the cue title is automatically set to the filename.
3
Set volume and lock it (optional)
Each cue has its own volume slider. Adjust it to your desired level, then tap the 🔒 lock icon to prevent accidental changes during a show. Locked cues will not respond to slider adjustments.
4
Add markers (optional)
Tap ⓘ → Add Marker to mark specific moments within a cue — useful for verse/chorus jumps or multi-section audio. Each marker has a name, a start time, and an optional end time.
5
Play your cue
Tap the ▶ play button on any cue tile to start playback. Use the progress slider at the bottom to scrub through the audio, and the Pause or Fade Out buttons to stop.
6
Connect CueSuite Mobile (optional)
Install CueSuite Mobile on an iPhone to control your iPad remotely. Tap the ⚙️ gear icon to see your connection info — Wi-Fi address, Bluetooth name, and optional password — then connect from the iPhone app.

Remote Control

CueSuite Mobile
📱 CueSuite Mobile is a free companion iPhone app that lets you control your iPad's cue playback wirelessly from anywhere in the venue — over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Tap the ⚙️ gear icon in the top toolbar. A sheet will show your Bluetooth Name (used for BLE discovery) and your Wi-Fi IP Address (for manual entry on the iPhone).

You can also customise the device name that appears in the iPhone app by editing the Device name field. Tap Save and the new name takes effect immediately on both Wi-Fi (Bonjour) and Bluetooth.

Tap the ⚙️ gear icon and enter a password in the Password (optional) field, then tap Save. The iPhone companion will be prompted to enter this password before it can send any commands.

To remove password protection, clear the password field and tap Save. Leave the field blank if you don't want password protection.

This usually means the iPad and iPhone are on different Wi-Fi networks, or CueSuite on the iPad is running in the background and has been suspended by iOS. Make sure CueSuite is open and visible on the iPad screen.

If using Bluetooth, ensure both devices have Bluetooth enabled and that you are within reasonable range (roughly 10 metres). Try disconnecting and reconnecting from the iPhone.

CueSuite Mobile gives you full transport control: play any cue from the cue list, pause, resume, fade out, and stop. The now-playing card shows the current cue title, elapsed/remaining time, and a live progress bar that updates in real time.

You can also jump to any named marker within the currently playing cue, and see the list of all cues with their marker counts. The next cue is shown at the bottom of the now-playing card when a Next Cue chain is active.

Playback & Audio

Troubleshooting
💡 Most audio issues are caused by a file being moved or deleted after being assigned to a cue, or by DRM restrictions on Apple Music streaming tracks.

First, confirm the cue has an audio file assigned — tap ⓘ Info and check that a source is listed. If not, tap Select to assign one.

If the file was previously assigned but has since been moved or renamed in the Files app, re-select it via ⓘ → Select → Files App to restore the link.

For Music Library tracks, make sure the song is downloaded to your device and not streaming-only.

Check if the cue's volume is locked. If the 🔒 lock icon is filled, the volume is locked and the slider is disabled. Tap the lock icon to unlock it.

Volume control is also unavailable for DRM-protected Apple Music tracks, which play through the system music player rather than the in-app audio engine.

Tapping Fade Out gradually reduces the volume of the currently playing audio over approximately one second, then stops playback completely and resets the volume to full for the next use.

Fade Out works on any cue playing through the in-app audio engine. It is not available for DRM-protected Apple Music tracks. Fade Out can also be triggered remotely from CueSuite Mobile.

Yes. CueSuite registers with the iOS Now Playing system, so the track name and playback controls appear on the lock screen and in Control Center. You can play and pause from there without unlocking your device.
